Advent Week 3: Joy to the World
The third week of Advent we remember the joy of the shepherds hearing the good news that Jesus has come.
Advent is a season of anticipation. In the first week we embraced the hope for the season, the second week we focused on peace, and in this third we remember joy.
Readings
Luke 2:8-14
"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."
Matthew 2:10-11
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
